Basketball Preview: Peoria Heights Patriots vs. Cuba/Spoon River Valley Wildcats
The Peoria Heights Patriots's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Cuba/Spoon River Valley Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Peoria Heights stacked a 14th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They blew past Bushnell-Prairie City 51-12 at home. With Peoria Heights ahead 36-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.
It was another big night for Janessa Marie wallace, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Rianna Foster was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Cuba/Spoon River Valley waltzed into their matchup on Monday with three straight wins but they left with four. They came out on top against Midwest Central/Delavan by a score of 55-46. Given Cuba/Spoon River Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 230th, while the Raiders are ranked 464th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Peoria Heights' victory bumped their record up to 22-6. As for Cuba/Spoon River Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season.
Peoria Heights strolled past the Wildcats when the teams last played back in November of 2023 by a score of 52-37. Will Peoria Heights repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
