Softball Game Preview: Newcomb Skyhawks vs. Tohatchi Cougars

Newcomb is 2-8 against Tohatchi since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Skyhawks will challenge the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. Newcomb has given up an average of 15.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Newcomb lost 22-3 to Shiprock on Wednesday. The Skyhawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Tohatchi had just enough and edged out Wingate 12-11 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Tohatchi's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-11. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Newcomb, their loss dropped their record down to 6-18.

Everything went Newcomb's way against Tohatchi in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Newcomb made off with a 16-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Skyhawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
