Lawrence County takes loss despite strong efforts from Ava Boyll and Jaala Hawkins

Recap: Lawrence County Red Devils vs. Central Wildcats

The Lawrence County Red Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 44-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Central. Lawrence County lost against Central in their previous head to head back in November of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 48-44 score last time.

Lawrence County's loss came despite strong showings from Jaala Hawkins and Ava Boyll. Hawkins scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Boyll scored 13 points. Hawkins scored a full 43.6% of Lawrence County's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Central was led to victory by Callie Beth Wright and Lillian Moore. Wright scored nine points along with five rebounds, while Moore scored nine points along with five rebounds and three steals. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for her.

Lawrence County's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-10. As for Central, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

Lawrence County will be home for the holidays to greet Haleyville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Haleyville is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. As for Central, they will head out on the road to face off against Collinwood at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
