Basketball Recap: Speedway Comes Up Short

Speedway was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 46-44 heartbreaker at the hands of the Triton Central Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Sparkplugs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 383rd, while the Tigers are ranked 175th).

Despite the loss, Speedway still got an impressive performance from Drew Matelic, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Matelic's third in a row with at least 17 points. Camden Bennett was another key player, putting up seven points and five boards.

Eli Sego was his usual excellent self, going 8-for-11 en route to 22 points for Triton Central. Another player making a difference was Max Crouse, who posted five points and four steals.

Speedway's loss dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Triton Central, their record is now 13-9.

Speedway does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Triton Central, they will take on Heritage Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
