Lakewood is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Mt. Baker on Thursday. Lakewood narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Mt. Baker 23-21. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Mountaineers: they've now won eight in a row.

The team relied heavily on Riley Pevny, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five runs, and five RBI. Another player making a difference was Cassidy Wolfe, who scored four runs while going 4-for-4.

Meanwhile, Ferndale came up short against Lake Stevens on Tuesday, falling 14-3. The Golden Eagles have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Kaelin Blakley made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Lakewood's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Ferndale, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Lakewood took their victory against Ferndale when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 14-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lakewood since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
