Softball Recap: Long Takes Down Abbeville in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Long had no problem doing just that on Monday. They never let the Abbeville Yellowjackets get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Rebels, who have now won 23 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Kaylie Joseph made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since April 3rd.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anna Claire Free, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, she posted four RBI, the most she's had since April 4th. Another player making a difference was Carlie Davis, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

The victory (which was Long's fifth in a row) raised their record to 36-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Abbeville, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

As of now, neither Long nor the Yellowjackets have any future games scheduled.
