Baseball Game Preview: Lakewood Tigers vs. Mountain Range Mustangs

Lakewood is 0-3 against Mountain Range since March of 2017 but things could change on Saturday. Lakewood will face off against Mountain Range at 11:00 a.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Lakewood came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 9-3 to Cherry Creek.

CJ Mahoney put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off three hits. Mahoney was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Mountain Range was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-9 heartbreaker at the hands of Westminster.

Landon Maves was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Mountain Range: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Zane Weingartner, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Lakewood now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Mountain Range, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Lakewood couldn't quite finish off Mountain Range when the teams last played back in April of 2019 and fell 3-1. Can Lakewood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
