Baseball Game Preview: Poudre Impalas vs. Highlands Ranch Falcons

The Poudre Impalas will challenge the Highlands Ranch Falcons at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Neither Poudre nor Highlands Ranch posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Poudre managed to slip by Loveland the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Poudre came up short against Loveland on Thursday, falling 8-1. The matchup marked the Impalas' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Poudre got a good showing from Kysen Mohr, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Mohr a new career-high in strikeouts (two).

On the hitting side, Poudre saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Angelo Vieira, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits Vieira has posted since back in March of 2024. Chase Barrett also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Highlands Ranch fell victim to Grandview and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolves. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Poudre now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Highlands Ranch, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Poudre skirted past Highlands Ranch 8-7 in their previous meeting back in April of 2016. Does Poudre have another victory up their sleeve, or will Highlands Ranch turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
