Weekend's wildest high school football games

Highlands, Warren Central combine for 1,500 yards of offense in record-setting game in Kentucky.



Warren Central set a Kentucky state record for most yards of total offense in a game, but it wasn't enough to defeat Highlands (Fort Thomas, Ky.) in a game that highlights this Weekend's Wildest Games.

Warren Central (Bowling Green, Ky.) 69
Highlands gave up a state record 918 yards of total offense to Warren Central, but it managed to hang on for a 71-69 win Friday. Highlands racked up 626 yards of its own, giving the two teams a combined 1,544 yards of total offense. Beau Hoge provided most of the offense for Highlands, completing 19 of 31 passes for 417 yards and four touchdowns. All four of his scoring passes came in the first quarter as Highlands built a 34-7 lead. Chris Porter-Bunton led Warren Central's comeback as he completed 5 of 10 passes for 210 yards and two scores and also ran 14 times for 212 yards and four touchdowns. Warren Central had 716 yards rushing, which ranks second all-time in state history.

Calhoun (Port Lavaca, Texas) 76
Victoria East (Victoria, Texas) 55
Calhoun scored the last 21 points of the game to break a 55-55 tie early in the fourth quarter. Jakorious Williams had four touchdowns and 260 yards rushing for the winners while Brandon Smithwick added 41 yards and three scores and Hunter Boerm rushed for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Jonathan Ortega topped Victoria East with 254 yards passing with three touchdowns and 154 yards rushing with a score.

Jackson South Side (Jackson, Tenn.) 70
Bolivar Central (Bolivar, Tenn.) 52
Cade Willingham threw eight touchdown passes and completed 22 of 40 passes for 453 yards in the win for South Side. Bolivar Central stayed in the game thanks to five rushing touchdowns by Keyon Crisp.

Lakeside (Sibley, La.) 70
North Caddo (Vivian, La.) 68
Jontaveon Brooks threw for 255 yards and four touchdowns for North Caddo in the loss to Lakeside. Deion Johnson added 128 yards rushing and a score to go along with a receiving touchdown.



Connally (Waco, Texas) 62
La Vega (Waco, Texas) 60
For the third straight week, Connally scored at least 55 points and gave up at least 52, this time winning 62-60 over La Vega. Joshua Terrell had five touchdown runs for the winners while rushing for 237 yards. Quarterback Kristian Brown added 151 yards and James Davis had 118 in the win.

Rockwall (Texas) 64
Mesquite (Texas) 61
Tony Pecora's 28-yard field goal in overtime gave Rockwall the come-from-behind win over Mesquite. Rockwall trailed by 16 in the fourth quarter but tied the game on a pair of touchdowns by Xavier Castille, who also scored both two-point conversions. Castille had 181 yards on eight catches and also ran 15 times for 72 yards and a touchdown. Tamba Juanah added four touchdowns and 160 yards on 15 carries for the winners. Mesquite got 436 yards and six touchdowns on 33 carries from Shadavian Reed.

Brighton (Colo.) 63
Poudre (Fort Collins, Colo.) 61
Cody Limmer threw eight touchdown passes and 560 yards for Poudre, but it wasn't enough to beat Brighton, which got 263 yards passing with four touchdowns from Tanner Pepin.

Gaffney (S.C.) 59
Boiling Springs (Spartanburg, S.C.) 54
Shaq Davidson led Gaffney with 313 yards passing (27 of 43) with three touchdowns and also ran 21 times for 174 yards and two touchdowns. Hyleck Foster added 24 carries for 158 yards and three touchdowns for Gaffney. For Boiling Springs, Daniel Thompson was 21 of 32 for 322 yards and a touchdown while Brendon Robinson ran 14 times for 100 yards and four touchdowns. The two teams combined for 1,211 totals yards and 38 penalties, according to Go Upstate Preps.

Lindale (Texas) 59
Jacksonville (Texas) 55
Jacksonville almost got its first win of the season, but Lindale scored on a 7-yard pass from David Slice to Justin Willis with less than a second remaining to give Lindale the win. Lindale set up the winning score with a 73-yard hook-and-lateral play from Slice to Aaron Jackson. For Jacksonville, Carter McCown ran for 253 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 360 yards. He scored the go-ahead touchdown with 36 seconds left in the game on an 8-yard run.
