Softball Recap: Gilmer County Wins Going Away Against Braxton County

Gilmer County won the last time they faced Braxton County and things went their way on Saturday too. Gilmer County blew past Braxton County 18-1.

Addison Godfrey was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Gilmer County got a big performance out of Summer Bourn, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1. The dominant performance also gave Bourn a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Layla Smith, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one run.

Gilmer County now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Braxton County, their loss was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gilmer County will challenge Tucker County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Braxton County, they will welcome Ravenswood at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Braxton County is facing Ravenswood at the right time seeing as Ravenswood is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
