Basketball Recap: Kairell Evans' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Southern Wayne over East Wake

Southern Wayne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 83-63 to the East Wake Warriors. The Saints were not able to make up for their defeat to the Warriors from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

Southern Wayne lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kairell Evans, who posted 16 points and seven boards. He is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last four games he's played. Ivory Moore was another key player, going 5 for 7 to rack up 14 points and seven rebounds.

East Wake was led to victory by Pierre Crespo and Corban Woodard. Crespo went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 19 points and three steals, while Woodard almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine boards. Those 19 points gave Crespo a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Malachi Harris, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds.

Southern Wayne's loss dropped their record down to 4-15. As for East Wake, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Southern Wayne didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-44 victory against Smithfield-Selma on the 7th. As for East Wake, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 90-54 win against Fike on the 7th.
