Baseball Recap: North Decatur Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but North Decatur had no problem doing just that on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Southwestern Spartans an 8-0 shutout. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Matthew Fields made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last five games. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Reisman, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 11 contests. Nolan Burkhart was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

The win was the third in a row for North Decatur, bringing their record up to 15-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Southwestern, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-9.

Looking ahead, North Decatur will take on Tri at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Southwestern does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
