Baseball Recap: Speedway Sparkplugs vs. Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Braves
Speedway had lost five straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-12-1 to make it six. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Braves. The Sparkplugs were not able to make up for their loss to the Braves from their previous meeting back in June of 2024.
Jordan Strong was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Bradley Howard also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
As for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.
On Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory's side, Austin Braun looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits.
At the plate, Andrew O'Brien was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Suscha, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Speedway will head out on the road to square off against Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Sparkplugs are facing the Raiders at the right time seeing as the Raiders are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, they will face off against Franklin Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
