Softball Recap: Aliquippa Takes a Loss

Aliquippa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 15th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 18-8 to the Freedom Area Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 29-11 on Friday.

Faith Riley and Kah'Ni Spears did some serious damage despite the final result: Riley went a perfect 4-for-4 with eight stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Spears got on base in all four of her plate appearances with six stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. With that strong performance, Riley is now averaging an impressive 2 stolen bases per game. Chassidy Miller was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Aliquippa's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Freedom Area, their win ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-13.

Aliquippa does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Freedom Area, they will take on Shenango at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
