Basketball Recap: Rocky Ford Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Rocky Ford needed a changed in momentum after dropping 15 straight games and they got it from Isaiah Vazquez-Gallegos. The Rocky Ford Meloneers came out on top against the La Junta Tigers by a score of 58-50 on Tuesday thanks in part to Vazquez-Gallegos, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 15 boards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game.

Another player making a difference was Juan Murillo, who posted 12 points. Those 12 points gave him a new career-high.

La Junta's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Calvin Hill, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds, and Tony Rodriguez, who earned 13 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Hill is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Alfred Furtado was another key player, putting up nine points.

Rocky Ford's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-11. As for La Junta, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Rocky Ford has already played their next matchup, a 59-49 win against Mitchell on the 27th. As for La Junta, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 107-45 loss against The Vanguard School on the 24th.
