Basketball Recap: Great Oak Takes a Loss

Great Oak was the 57-52 winner over Murrieta Mesa when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. The Great Oak Wolfpack fell just short of the Murrieta Mesa Rams by a score of 53-51 on Wednesday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Wolfpack came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while the Rams are ranked 555th).

Murrieta Mesa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kian Hendricks led the charge by going 6-for-12 on his way to 15 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds. Hendricks has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaden Merritt, who posted eight points and 12 boards.

Great Oak's loss dropped their record down to 20-8. As for Murrieta Mesa, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-19.

Great Oak didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 74-59 win against AGBU on the 12th. Murrieta Mesa does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
