Softball Recap: Sterling Wins Going Away Against Quincy

Sterling won the last time they faced Quincy and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Golden Warriors blew past the Blue Devils 10-2. The result was nothing new for the Golden Warriors, who have now won three games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Lily Martinez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Martinez was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Sterling got a big performance out of Lily Cantu, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was Cantu's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kaity Taylor, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Sterling kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.

The win made it two in a row for Sterling and bumps their season record up to 6-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Quincy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Sterling wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 5-4 win against Rock Island on the 3rd. As for Quincy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Alleman at 4:30 p.m. on the 9th.
