Preview: Mancos Bluejays vs. Lyons Lions
Mancos is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Lyons is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Mancos Bluejays will take on the Lyons Lions at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mancos had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They really took it to Sedgwick County for the full four quarters, racking up a 38-0 win at home. Mancos pushed the score to 30-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Sedgwick County had little chance of recovering from.
Kail Wayman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 133 yards and a touchdown, while also throwing for 115 yards and three touchdowns on only six passes. Another player making a difference was Chris Medina, who rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Lyons faced Dove Creek in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Lyons took their contest at home on Saturday with ease, bagging a 62-22 win over Dove Creek. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-14.
Lyons got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Miles Dumbauld out in front who rushed for 180 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries, and also threw for 163 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes. Dumbauld was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 53 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Malik Sigg-Brown, who gained 195 total yards and three touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Mancos to 10-1 and Lyons to 11-0.
Mancos strolled past Lyons in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 by a score of 32-18. Does Mancos have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lyons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
