Basketball Recap: Jamauri Cannady's Big Game Can't Quite Lead North Edgecombe over Southwest Edgecombe

North Edgecombe was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 51-49 heartbreaker at the hands of the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

North Edgecombe lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jamauri Cannady, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds. Nyzir Mills was another key player, putting up 11 points and five boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead SouthWest Edgecombe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Justin Bridgers, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points in addition to five boards and three blocks. Bridgers has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Zy Thigpen, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 14 points and five steals.

North Edgecombe now has a losing record at 3-4. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Edgecombe will host Tarboro at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. North Edgecombe is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars duke it out with the Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Rocky Mount Prep's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
