The Fontbonne Academy Ducks will take on the Bristol-Plymouth RVT Craftsmen at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
While Fontbonne Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Holbrook on Wednesday as they made off with a 15-3 win. The victory was just business as usual for the Ducks, who after four games remain undefeated this season.
The team relied heavily on Gillian Jolley, who scored four runs and stole eight bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Shannon Hubbard, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, while Bristol-Plymouth RVT put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Old Colony RVT. The Craftsmen put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 20-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Craftsmen in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won seven in a row.
Gabrianna Arrighi tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Victoria D'Aiello and Jessica Slavick did most of the damage at the plate: D'Aiello went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Slavick scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Slavick is also on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last four games she's played. Izzy Torres was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.
Bristol-Plymouth RVT kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Old Colony RVT only managed one hit.
Fontbonne Academy's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bristol-Plymouth RVT, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.
Fontbonne Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Bristol-Plymouth RVT when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. Will the Ducks repeat their success, or do the Craftsmen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
