Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Southwest

Southwest had won two straight games and Aspen Billeter did her part to make it three on Saturday. The Southwest Roughriders came out on top against the Decatur Community Red Devils by a score of 51-44 thanks in part to Billeter, who went 8 of 12 on her way to 18 points and four steals. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game.

The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Vanpelt, who posted ten points and five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played dating back to last season.

Decatur Community's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brylee Minnick, who put up 16 points along with seven boards and four steals. That was a full 36.4% of Decatur Community's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Jenna Fortin was another key player, putting up seven points along with six assists and five boards.

Southwest's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Decatur Community, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Southwest didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 45-36 win against Alma on the 17th. As for Decatur Community, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 59-14 victory against Hill City on the 17th.
