Basketball Game Preview: Del Sol Dragons vs. Cimarron-Memorial Spartans

Del Sol hasn't had much luck against Cimarron-Memorial recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Del Sol Dragons will be playing at home against the Cimarron-Memorial Spartans at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Del Sol is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Chaparral on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Del Sol lost 86-64 to Chaparral. The Dragons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Del Sol might have lost, but man, Jaeden Alexander was a machine: he shot 5-for-8 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double on 32 points and nine boards. That was a full 50% of Del Sol's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelly Dawson, who put up 12 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Del Sol was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Cimarron-Memorial faced Rancho in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. Cimarron-Memorial fell 68-55 to Rancho. The Spartans' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Del Sol's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Cimarron-Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 10-4.

Del Sol came up short against Cimarron-Memorial in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 85-73. Can Del Sol avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
