Basketball Game Preview: New Deal Lions vs. Abernathy Antelopes

New Deal hasn't had much luck against Abernathy recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The New Deal Lions will head out to face off against the Abernathy Antelopes at 6:15 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

New Deal is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They enjoyed a cozy 66-48 victory over Smyer on Tuesday. The Lions pushed the score to 51-29 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bobcats cut but never quite recovered from.

Meanwhile, Abernathy came tearing into Tuesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 54 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down the Leopards 51-33.

New Deal has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 17-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points per game. As for Abernathy, they pushed their record up to 20-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.

New Deal was taken down by Abernathy 65-27 when the teams last played back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Abernathy's Mecailin Marshall, who almost dropped a double-double on 27 points and nine rebounds.
