The Liberty Christian Lions will face off against Horizon Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Liberty Christian has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with four straight losses, while Horizon Christian will come in with seven straight victories.
It was a proper cat-fight when Liberty Christian faced off against Elwood on Friday. The Lions came up short against the Panthers, falling 25-5.
Meanwhile, Horizon Christian got themselves on the board against Park Tudor on Monday, but Park Tudor never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 21-0 margin over the Panthers. Horizon Christian might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Lucy Long and Victoria Kiger were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Long pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Kiger struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Long has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Long went 3-for-5 with five runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Kiger got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cayden Marshall, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and two stolen bases. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cambria Hathaway, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Horizon Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in three consecutive games.
Horizon Christian pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.2 runs over those games. As for Liberty Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Liberty Christian suffered a grim 27-12 defeat to Horizon Christian in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
