Basketball Recap: Mountain View Wins Going Away Against Thornton

On Thursday, the Mountain View Mountain Lions strolled past the Thornton Trojans with points to spare, taking the game 46-30. That looming 46-30 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Mountain Lions yet this season.

Mountain View can attribute much of their success to Marlene Carrillo, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Carrillo is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Teagan Bauer, who posted three points along with seven boards and five steals.

Loss or not, Thornton got some senior leadership from Brisa Ortega and Victoria Perez. Ortega put up nine points, while Perez scored 13 points and four steals. Those nine points gave Ortega a new career-high. Briseida Hernandez also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Mountain View and bumps their season record up to 5-7. As for Thornton, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Mountain View didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-28 defeat against Northridge on the 17th. As for Thornton, they will square off against Wheat Ridge at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
