Softball Recap: North Canyon Triumphs

After low-scoring totals in their previous four contests, North Canyon brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They blew past the Paradise Valley Trojans 16-4 on Monday. Considering the Rattlers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Haylee Jensen spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Madison Kirby, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelyn Thompson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

North Canyon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

North Canyon's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-10. As for Paradise Valley, they dropped their record down to 0-10 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

North Canyon will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Trojans: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
