Basketball Recap: Houston Math Science & Tech Comes Up Short

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Houston Math Science & Tech and Milby, and Milby kept the tradition alive. The Tigers took a hard 33-18 fall against the Buffs on Monday. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Buffs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Milby found their leader in sophomore Ke'Lia Smith, who went 6-for-12 on her way to 18 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals. Smith is becoming a predictor of the Buffs' success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 6-2 (and 3-4 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Itzel Castillo, who posted no points along with ten boards and seven steals.

Houston Math Science & Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Milby, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Houston Math Science & Tech has already played their next contest (against Scarborough), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Milby and Aldine will round out the year against one another at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The Buffs are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
