Softball Recap: Lamesa Takes a Loss

Lamesa extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 12-8 in the process. They lost 19-8 to the Denver City Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-5 back in March.

As for Denver City, they pushed their record up to 20-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won 14 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Denver City's part, they got a massive performance out of Ashley Martinez, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Martinez has posted since back in March. Eva Gonzales was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Lamesa and Denver City are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Tornadoes will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Alpine at 5:00 p.m. on the 25th. The Bucks will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Lamesa surely won't give up without a fight. Denver City also won't see the field for a while: their next game is against Presidio at 6:00 p.m. on the 25th. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.63 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
