The Pueblo Central Wildcats will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Pueblo East Eagles at 5:30 p.m. Pueblo Central comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
On Tuesday, Pueblo Central took a serious blow against Pueblo County, falling 54-11. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Pueblo Central in their matchups with Pueblo County: they've now lost nine in a row.
Emeri Whiting was Pueblo Central's leading scorer, having posted seven points.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Pueblo East, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 48-30 loss to Pueblo West on Tuesday.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Myah Abeyta, who scored 15 points along with two steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brailey Rowe, who scored eight points along with five steals.
Pueblo Central dropped their record down to 6-13 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 21.2 points per game. As for Pueblo East, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-11.
Pueblo Central was taken down by Pueblo East 61-25 in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Abeyta, who scored 26 points along with two steals. Now that Pueblo Central knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
