Matt Maxon gave up the fewest hits he has since back in March on Friday. He was dynamite, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Carmel is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise.

Looking ahead, Maxon and Carmel will face off against Stevenson at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Padres got just the result they wanted when they last faced the Pirates thanks in part to Maxon: he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched.
