Basketball Recap: Jy'aira Washington's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Northeast over Gibbs

Northeast lost against Gibbs back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Northeast Vikings lost 59-33 to the Gibbs Gladiators. The Vikings' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Northeast's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jy'Aira Washington, who went 8 for 18 on her way to 18 points and five rebounds. The matchup was Washington's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Geniya Fisher, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

Northeast's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Gibbs, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northeast has already played their next contest (against Pinellas Park), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Gibbs won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lakewood at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
