Softball Game Preview: Cedarville Indians vs. Oakwood Lumberjacks

The Cedarville Indians will head out to challenge the Oakwood Lumberjacks at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Cedarville will be strutting in after a victory while Oakwood will be coming in after a defeat.

Cedarville was handed a 18-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against East Clinton, sneaking past 4-2.

Joscelyn Evans spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 15 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Katelyn Reed was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Ayden Rodgers was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Oakwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 12-2 to Brookville.

Kaitlin Patterson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

Oakwood's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Cedarville, the win got them back to even at 6-6.

Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cedarville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Oakwood struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Cedarville suffered a grim 19-3 defeat to Oakwood in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
