Basketball Recap: Loyola Blakefield Gets Big Victory over Higher-Ranked Archbishop Spalding

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mount St. Joseph, Loyola Blakefield was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They secured a 76-70 W over the Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Dons' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Cavaliers are ranked ninth).

Jesse Legree was nothing short of spectacular: he posted 35 points. Those 35 points gave him a new career-high. Terry Brooks was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Archbishop Spalding's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Braxton Bogard, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 19 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Barrett, who went 5 of 12 en route to 16 points and seven boards.

Loyola Blakefield now has a winning record of 14-13. As for Archbishop Spalding, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 17-5 record.

Loyola Blakefield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 53-50 win against Calvert Hall on the 31st. Archbishop Spalding has also already played their next game (against Mount St. Joseph), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
