Basketball Recap: Richland Comes Up Short

Richland had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 1-9 to make it seven. They fell 50-38 to the Florence Eagles. The Rangers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in December of 2024.

As for Florence, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-1. While they didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Florence's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brandt Barlow, who shot 60% from the field en route to 17 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Barlow is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Kayne Ashley was another key player, dropping a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Richland will face off against Murrah at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Florence, they will challenge Crystal Springs at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
