Baseball Recap: Azusa Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Azusa won the last time they faced Edgewood and things went their way on Thursday too. The Azusa Aztecs walked away with a 9-4 win over the Edgewood Lions.

Zach Huizar made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off 13 hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Jacob Elliot was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Terry Chavez, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

Azusa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edgewood only posted an OBP of .323.

Azusa pushed their record up to 1-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Edgewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Azusa will square off against Ontario at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Edgewood, they will face off against United Christian Academy at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
