Baseball Recap: Sierra Grande Starts Season with Victory Against Centennial

Sierra Grande gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They put the hurt on the Centennial Rams with a sharp 21-1 victory. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Kobe Mizokami made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Sierra Grande let Luis Roybal and Patrick Sanchez run wild. Roybal scored four runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Sanchez scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Sanchez is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last 13 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maximus Roybal, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Sierra Grande always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .844. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Centennial only posted an OBP of .385.

Centennial is on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Sierra Grande beat Centennial by a score of 22-1 later that day.
