Baseball Game Preview: Claymont Mustangs vs. Fairless Falcons

The Claymont Mustangs will venture away from home to challenge the Fairless Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Claymont will be strutting in after a win while Fairless will be coming in after a defeat.

While Claymont's victory against Canton South wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 5-3.

Brady Fox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Brayson Gray was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Fair, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, Fairless suffered their biggest loss since May 15, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against Orrville, falling 12-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Fairless saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zack Long, who went 2-for-4 with one run. Deegan Meek also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Claymont's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-7. As for Fairless, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.

Claymont skirted past Fairless 12-10 in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
