Softball Recap: Newport Comes Up Short

Newport was the 16-1 winner over Philomath when they last played one another last Monday, but their luck changed this time around. The Cubs fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 14-13 on Thursday. The Cubs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Newport got a massive performance out of Ashtyn Black, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Kiley Humphrys was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Newport's defeat dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Philomath, with the victory, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-8.

Looking ahead, Newport will challenge Cascade at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cubs will need to watch out since the Cougars have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matchups. As for Philomath, they will square off against North Marion at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
