Basketball Recap: Hunter Daffron's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sweetwater over Polk County

Sweetwater was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 61-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Polk County Wildcats. Sweetwater was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Polk County apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hunter Daffron, who went 5 for 11 en route to 17 points and five rebounds. That's the most points Daffron has posted since back in December of 2024. Bryson Burgess was another key player, going 5 of 11 on his way to 15 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Polk County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Benjamin Webb, who went 8 for 14 en route to 21 points and three steals. Webb is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Zanten Branham, who went 8 of 17 on his way to 18 points along with six boards and five steals.

Sweetwater's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Polk County, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Sweetwater will venture away from home to take on McMinn Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Polk County, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Polk County Wildcats challenge the Meigs County Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
