Basketball Game Preview: East Central HomeSchool Patriots vs. Bessemer Academy Rebels

The East Central HomeSchool Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Bessemer Academy Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (East Central HomeSchool has four straight victories, Bessemer Academy has 12 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

East Central HomeSchool is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Tuscaloosa Home Educators 64-43 on Thursday. With that win, the Patriots brought their scoring average up to 51.3 points per game.

East Central HomeSchool relied on the efforts of Micah Coalson, who dropped a triple-double on 22 points, ten rebounds, and 11 assists, and Emma Nelson, who went 10 of 15 on her way to 25 points along with seven assists and six boards. The contest was Coalson's 13th in a row with at least ten points. Emily Rea was another key player, putting up six points and eight rebounds.

East Central HomeSchool smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Bessemer Academy took a blow against North River Christian on Thursday, falling 60-26.

East Central HomeSchool's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 28.9 points. As for Bessemer Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

East Central HomeSchool took their win against Bessemer Academy in their previous meeting back in January of 2020 by a conclusive 50-24. Does East Central HomeSchool have another victory up their sleeve, or will Bessemer Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
