Baseball Recap: Carterville's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Carterville put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the Salem Wildcats with a sharp 16-1 victory. Fans of the Lions have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Aidan Swallers and Logan Ingle were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Swallers tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ingle didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. That one hit allowed gave him a new career-low. At the plate, Swallers scored three runs while going 3-for-3, while Ingle scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave Swallers a new career-high.

In other batting news, Carterville got a massive performance out of Parker Poole, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Alex Lyell, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Carterville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .528. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .472 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Carterville's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Salem, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Carterville Lions challenge Vernon Hills Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Salem, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Belleville West at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
