Basketball Recap: Wagon Mound Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Josiah Vasquez and Eugene Armijo

Wagon Mound was the 57-39 winner over Raton when they last played one another back in December of 2014, but their luck changed this time around. The Wagon Mound Trojans lost 68-42 to the Raton Tigers on Thursday. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Wagon Mound's loss came despite strong showings from Eugene Armijo and Josiah Vasquez. Armijo went 5 of 12 on his way to 14 points in addition to three steals and three blocks, while Vasquez posted 14 points.

Wyatt Berry had an outrageously good game for Raton as he went 7 for 12 on his way to 18 points in addition to six assists and four steals. Berry continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Walton, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Wagon Mound's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Raton, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.

Wagon Mound wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 77-49 defeat against Springer on the 14th. As for Raton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 49-47 win against Des Moines on the 14th.
