Baseball Game Preview: Dunlap Eagles vs. Springfield Senators

The Dunlap Eagles will take on the Springfield Senators at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Springfield took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Dunlap, who comes in off a win.

If Dunlap beats Springfield with 11 runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Dunlap put the hurt on De Smet Jesuit with a sharp 11-1 win on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Davis Weeks made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Weeks was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other pitching news, Landon Gray looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Owen Shissler, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Ferrari, who scored a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Springfield fell victim to Litchfield and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They came up short against the Purple Panthers, falling 9-0. The loss put an end to the Senators' undefeated start to the season.

Dunlap pushed their record up to 2-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Springfield, their defeat was their first of the season and also makes their record 2-1.

Everything went Dunlap's way against Springfield in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Dunlap made off with a 13-1 victory. Does Dunlap have another victory up their sleeve, or will Springfield turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
