Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Princeton walked away with it. They snuck past the Sycamore Aviators with a 63-57 win on Saturday. The victory was nothing new for the Vikings as they're now sitting on 11 straight.
Princeton was led to victory by Erin Thomas and Mari Gerton. Thomas on her way to 20 points along with six boards and four steals, while Gerton posted 17 points and seven rebounds. Gerton's afternoon made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Kali Fortson was another key player, putting up four points and six rebounds.
Princeton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.
Sycamore lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Emma Christerson, who to rack up 19 points. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in each of the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachel Balent, who scored ten points in addition to seven boards and three steals.
Princeton's record now sits at 18-6. As for Sycamore, their loss dropped their record down to 13-11.
Coming up, Princeton will challenge Fairmont at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Princeton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Fairmont likes a good challenge. Sycamore does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
