Jackson County had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 4-12 to make it five. They came up short against the Clay County Bulldogs, falling 16-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-4 on Monday.
Hayden Stafford and Colby Mull stepped up to the plate in a big way. Stafford went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Mull went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
As for Clay County, the win got them back to even at 6-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by ten runs or more this season.
On Clay County's side, Aayden Cherry made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Cherry has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Clay County: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise.
In other batting news, Clay County got a massive performance out of Brayden Baskerville, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Baskerville is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Nolan Adams also deserves some recognition as he hit his first doubles of the season.
Jackson County has already played their next game, a 5-3 loss against Livingston Academy on the 9th. As for Clay County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 7-0 defeat against Gordonsville on the 9th.
