Basketball Recap: Hubbard Comes Up Short

Hubbard was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 48-39 to the Girard Indians. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 55-48 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Hubbard lost, don't look at Jakob Hayes. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards. Dylan Bucher was another key player, putting up five points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Hubbard smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Hubbard's defeat dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Girard, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hubbard will square off against Lakeview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lakeview knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Hubbard likes a good challenge. As for Girard, they and South Range will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played.
