Baseball Recap: New Buffalo's Undefeated Season over After Seven Games

New Buffalo fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Michigan Lutheran on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Titans by a score of 5-4. The game marked the Bison's lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Colten Lijewski was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Lijewski was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one double.

In other batting news, Vaughn Nikkel made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games he's played dating back to last season. Nicholas Wolfe was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Having lost for the first time this season, New Buffalo fell to 6-1. As for Michigan Lutheran, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-3.

While New Buffalo had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
