Football Recap: Westview Starts Season with Defeat at Home + How To Watch

Westview unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Mt. Carmel Sundevils on Friday, falling 43-21. The Wolverines have struggled against the Sundevils recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Matthew Guimond threw for 224 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Josh Haney was his top target, picking up 85 receiving yards and two scores. On the ground, Justin Rodriguez rushed for 56 yards on only six carries.

Trevor Taumoepeau had a dynamite game For Mt. Carmel., throwing for 320 yards and four TDs while picking up 10.7 yards per attempt, and also punching in one rushing score. That's the most passing yards Taumoepeau has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Atticus Enriquez, who picked up 125 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Looking ahead, Westview is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will face off against Grossmont at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mt. Carmel, they will be playing at home against La Jolla Country Day at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
