Basketball Recap: Chapin Takes a Loss

Chapin lost against Dutch Fork back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Chapin Eagles lost 60-34 to the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while the Silver Foxes are ranked sixth).

When it comes to explaining why Chapin lost, don't look at Brooke Holmes. Despite the final result, she posted ten points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Atyria Douglas, who had eight points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Chapin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Michaela Fairwell was her usual excellent self, shooting 5-for-9 from long range and almost dropping a double-double on 33 points and nine rebounds for Dutch Fork. Those 33 points gave Fairwell a new career-high. Trinity Crumlin was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Chapin's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-12. As for Dutch Fork, they pushed their record up to 17-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chapin will challenge Lexington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lexington is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.1 points per game this season. As for Dutch Fork, they will square off against White Knoll at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Dutch Fork's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matchups.
