Basketball Recap: Stevens Falcons vs. Sotomayor WILDCATS
Stevens was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 21st straight loss. They were dealt a 69-12 defeat at the hands of the Sotomayor WILDCATS. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1200th, while the WILDCATS are ranked 97th).
Alyssia Murphy was Stevens' leading scorer, having posted seven points. Maddilyn Thomas held things down on the boards with seven rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sotomayor to victory, but perhaps none more so than Corina Barrera, who went 7 for 9 on her way to 14 points along with six steals and five boards. Barrera is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Jah'Dae Bussey was another key player, going 7 of 17 en route to 16 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.
Stevens' loss dropped their record down to 1-26. As for Sotomayor, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-8.
Stevens didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 39-19 defeat against Harlan on the 24th. As for Sotomayor, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 62-31 victory against Taft on the 24th.
